Launch of BURNETT REMOULD postural support range

A range of remouldable postural supports is now being manufactured exclusively by Care & Independence!

Care & Independence the safe patient moving and handling specialists, recently acquired full ownership rights from RBF Healthcare for the postural support product range known as the Burnett Vacuum Support System.

Rebranded as burnett remould, the company have made a number of manufacturing product improvements since the acquisition at the back end of 2022, and are now poised to relaunch the range.  James Bennett, Sales & Marketing Director explains the business decision behind branching out beyond the sling and bathing equipment Care & Independence is renowned for.

We are in the business of improving lives of those less able. We do this through our wide range of high-quality products, training and support services and expertise in solving complex moving & handling problems via our industry-leading assessment and sales teams. Diversifying our existing moving & handling product collections with a complementary postural support range enables us to provide a more holistic package and to reach a wider marketplace, bringing benefits to all of our end users, their families, carers and clinicians.”

With manufacturing undertaken at their Wigan production site, James also notes how the past few months have seen a determined effort to ensure that demand for existing customers orders had been met with as little disruption as possible during the ownership transitionary period, whilst also preparing for new customer needs post-launch.  “It has been a challenge to rapidly onboard the manufacturing processes for the burnett remould products but as always our team have excelled themselves and gone above and beyond,” he said.  “I am confident that current and future customers will be impressed with the Care & Independence quality, lead times and performance we commit to as standard.”

The burnett remould range of products allows for multiple applications across both wet and dry environments with suitability for over 30 medical conditions.  Comprising a mix of vacuum-moulded and self-regulating aids, the postural supports not only retain a shape individual to the user but can be easily remoulded as user needs change or grow.  For those unfamiliar with moulded postural supports, the support itself consists of a heat-sealed vinyl casing filled with thousands of small soft beads – similar in some respects to a beanbag.  When air is extracted from the casing, the beads compress and can be further manipulated to form a shaped mould unique to the individual’s body contours.  For self-regulating supports, once the weight-pressure is released, air re-circulates within the casing, returning the support to its original malleable state, ready for reuse.  For vacuum-moulded supports, a pump is used to extract the air and form the mould.  Vacuum-moulded products retain the moulded-shape even when user is not in-situ.  Again, the reintroduction of air to the casing ‘resets’ the support, allowing it to be re-moulded time and time again as needs dictate.

Initially the company is releasing the bathing-associated burnett remould solutions.  This product family offers a range of ten products suitable for bathtub, shower and toilet use – full product details are available to view on the company website.   A further two stages of product relaunches are expected to quickly follow, taking the total to circa 40 new products being added to the Care & Independence portfolio.  Route-to-market is via a combination of direct assessment-led sales by Care & Independence Product Specialists, or through authorised third-party distributorships across the country.
